Travelling to the USA?

US Customs have introduced mandatory enhanced security requirements for travellers entering the United States under the Visa `Waiver Program (incorporating nationals of countries including Australia, New Zealand).

Anyone travelling for temporary business or leisure under the Visa Waiver Program will need to apply for authorisation (ESTA) prior to travelling. You can do this on-line at: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov
ESTA is an automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Authorization via ESTA does not determine whether a traveller is admissible to the United States. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers determine admissibility upon travelers’ arrival. The ESTA application collects biographic information and answers to VWP eligibility questions. ESTA applications may be submitted at any time prior to travel, though it is recommended that travelers apply as soon as they begin preparing travel plans.

Travelling to Canada?

New entry requirement now in effect: visa-exempt foreign nationals who fly to or transit through Canada are expected to have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Entry requirements for other methods of travel (land, sea) have not changed.

The Government of Canada has recently introduced a new entry requirement, known as an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), that applies to visa-exempt foreign nationals* travelling to or transiting Canada by air.
Effective March 15, 2016, visa-exempt foreign nationals must obtain an eTA before they can board a flight to Canada. To complete your application for an eTA, you will need your passport, a credit card and an email address. An eTA costs $7 CAD and is valid for up to five years.
Among those exempted from this new requirement are U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid visa.
